Dutch Spice Cookies “Speculaas Koekjes”
One of my favorite things about Advent and Christmas is baking tons of cookies with my kids!
Recently, I found the BEST Christmas Cookie recipe and I just had to share it with you! (Click here to see the reel on IG!)
Dutch Spice Cookies
“Speculaas Koekjes” or Dutch Spice Cookies have the most delicious blend of spices, similar to a gingerbread cookie, but this award-winning Dutch recipe will have you baking another batch before the day is over! Absolutely delicious!
My kitchen is a mess, there is flour on the floor, dishes in the sink, and I couldn’t care less about any of it right now. Just soaking up all these precious moments with my babies and enjoying Advent!
I couldn’t find out St. Nicholas cookie cutter anywhere (mom life amiright?) so I ad-libbed with a teddy bear cookie cutter and a santa head cookie cutter. They are NOT the cutest cookies I’ve ever made, but I promise you, they are absolutely delicious! I wish you could smell how amazing it smells in here right now.

I made a printable PDF below with the adapted recipe plus my modifications to make it gluten-free! (One of my sons has food allergies and we also try to feed my autistic son gluten-free because it helps him a lot!)
The original recipe is from “Dutch Touches: Recipes and Traditions, compiled by Carol Van Klompenburg and Dorothy Crum, Penfield Press, 1966” (Available on Amazon)
